LITE IT, BUT DON’T FITE IT…OR MAYBE NOT?

February 4, 2010

The legalizing weed argument has been going on for a really, really long time! America seems split about the decision to make cannabis a legal product. NEW JERSEY has recently made medicinal marijuana legal. The Garden State joins California, Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington as states that have made medicinal marijuana legal.

It seems that the team of Mary Jane has been gaining a lot of momentum in this never-ending race. A recent poll conducted by the Zogby International Poll says, “the percent is now up to 43% in favor of legalizing”. Obviously, that means the other side is still up, but Mary Jane is starting to close the gap.  There are so many arguments made for both sides of the battle.

There will be 5 popular pros and cons about each side listed.

PROS:

1. Marijuana, when taken in moderate quantities, is no more harmful than cigarettes.

2. Medicinal Marijuana can help fight many diseases such as cancer, AIDS, and glaucoma. It also helps many patients in chemotherapy.

3. Crime has increased due to the buying and selling of marijuana. Many young lives have been ruined, due to marijuana. This harmless plant shouldnt be the downfall to a young teen’s life!

4. Marijuana is also an important agricultural product!

5. Prohibiting marijuana is a violation of one’s freedom! People should smoke weed if they choose to!

CONS:

1. Many people think it is against values and ethics to use drugs.

2. It can also be a gate way drug!

3. Legalization could higher the chances of kids getting a hold of marijuana.

4. People who abuse the drug can harm themselves very seriously!

5. Many people might drive high, which can put many lives in danger.

What do you think about these pros and cons?

Always remember the only drug problem is getting good drugs!
