4/20..It’s like Christmas in April

February 28, 2010

The weed world has its own holiday. April 20 has become a holiday where people celebrate and smoke marijuana. Millions of people know about the holiday, celebrate, and just like to talk about it. But many of those people probably don’t know how it was formed.

One website says, “The term originated from a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, United States in 1971.The teens would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur statue”.  According to an April 2009 article on the The Huffington Post, the group called itself the Waldos because its members hung out by a wall after school.

4/20 is widely known about throughout the marijuana underworld. There was one rumor that said, the movie Pulp Fiction had all clocks throughout the movie set to 4:20. There are hats, shirts, buttons, and much more merchandise with the 4/20 logo on it. Also, known as National Pot Smokers Day, it promotes the use of marijuna.

4/20 is celebrated as sort of the New Years for pot smokers throughout the world. There are many international events that take place on this date to celebrate the use of marijuana. How can the “government” or any other authority figure put a stop to pot smoking when there is a holiday celebrating it. St. Patricks Day is a day where many people celebrate by consuming large portions of alcohol. People who celebrate 4/20 feel they have as much of a right as the people who celebrate St. Patricks Day.

420 is a symbol of cannabis and its culture. Today, April 20th events are international and 4:20 pm has become sort of a world wide “burn time”. Marijuana needs to be legalized, because the pot smoker underworld keeps on growing and there is no stopping it!!!!

And remember the only drug problem is getting good drugs!!!
